Regulation 44 of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 requires children’s homes to receive monthly visits from an independent person. These visits are designed to check that the home is safe, well run and providing good-quality care, with children’s experiences and welfare at the centre.
The independent visitor must not be involved in the day-to-day running of the home. Their role is to observe, listen and report on how well the home is meeting children’s needs, including:

Monthly Independent Visits
We visit your home every month, spending time with children, staff and managers to understand what life is really like in the home.
Observation and Evaluation
We look at daily routines, staff–child interactions, the implementation of care and behaviour plans, and overall safety and stability in the home.
Listening to Children and Staff
We seek feedback sensitively and respectfully, ensuring children feel heard and staff feel supported rather than judged.
Reviewing Records and Practice
We review key documents such as incidents, risk assessments, care plans and previous inspection outcomes to build a full picture of the home’s progress.
What You Receive
You receive clear, balanced reports that highlight strengths as well as areas for development, with practical and achievable recommendations.
Supportive Guidance for Managers
We talk through our findings with the Registered Manager and/or Responsible Individual, helping them to understand the “why” behind recommendations and how to implement them.
Follow-Up and Continuous Improvement
Where needed, we monitor progress against agreed actions and support you to embed change, not just record it.
Liaison With Regulatory Bodies
When appropriate, we liaise with Ofsted or other relevant professionals, particularly where safeguarding or serious concerns are identified.
